The shorter distance helped shackleford win the preakness for sure, after watching the derby again he did run a huge race but got tired 200 yards from the wire, the belmont has AK written all over it if they choose to go there after two hard races, hope they do. really thought this was going to be the year !
I knew he could do it! atta boy Shakleford! too bad he can’t stay the distance though
Animal Kingdom and Shackleford both ran their hearts out. I think AK does better in tier 3 than as a dead last closer. Jesus did a great job sitting right off flashpoint. The race was won though in the last 100 yards with that last burst from Shackleford to hold off the monster behind him. The exacta paid well for me, but I still would have liked to see a Triple Crown winner.
been following the Castanon brothers since their days in Mexico…Jesus has worked hard through out his career….Glad all his hard work paid off……..GONGRATS!!!!!!
i was there i saw every race scince 1:20pm untile this race… i was very disapointed because animal kingdom barely missed out on 1st
@equiniphile
I think AK was very deserving. Considering he is the only horse that had a legitimate chance to win the Belmont. Hes built for long distance, unlike those other derby-preakness horses.
Great race. I’m glad we’re not having a TC winner, there hasn’t been a horse deserving of it in a while.
Nice race. no horses injured is a win for all.
Amazing overlay at 12-1 Shackleford showed a ton of heart in the Derby where it’s tough to wire a field. Shorter distance in Preakness plus more of a speed favoring track. Expected 5-1 but got an amazing 12-1. Unbelievable!!!
Have to admit that it was a very impressive late run by Animal Kingdom. Congrats are due to Shackleford as well, considering how worked up he looked beforehands. Still, it’s disappointing to go yet another year, and no Triple Crown winner.
Fortuitous last-minute lead change by Shackleton there. Animal Kingdom might have had him otherwise. These are two good, honest horses — the kind you can root for. I hope they stay healthy and on the track!
Man Animal Kingdom can burst into speed.
@rcschumann p.s: fantastic run by Shackleford to win.
Brave effort by Animal Kingdom to finish 2nd. I think he will win the Belmont – his breeding is tailor-made for the longer distance and the others won’t be able to handle it.
LOVE Shackleford, he showed so much heart in the derby and deserved his win!
SO MAD ANIMAL KINGDOM DIDNT WINN SO F*CKING CLOSE!!!
Well, Shakleford didn’t lead wire to wire, he was just ahead at the second one
Thanks for posting this!
i dont think we will ever see a horse win the triple crown i give up but it was a strong try they are all champions in my book but i dont think there will ever be a horse that will reach inmotality again
